La Spezia city is an important logistic and military port, , and this is the reason why you won’t find beaches in town. The best beaches in La Spezia face the Gulf of Poets or the nearby Cinque Terre. All these beaches create a huge coastal district where you can find everything from well-equipped establishments to free beaches, which can often be very crowded.

Beaches of the Cinque Terre

Now very famous, they keep captivating with their beauty and uniqueness: the Cinque Terre are the most visited and most photographed part of the Ligurian Riviera, which gathers in a few kilometers all the typical landscape of this coast, where well-equipped and popular beaches alternate with hidden bays accessible only after a good workout or by boat.

Beaches in La Spezia

With a slightly urban-centric interpretation we can consider the beautiful coves suspended between Cinque Terre and Portovenere the beaches of La Spezia: in fact, if we dug a tunnel below the hills behind the city, we would land right here, on the suggestive beaches of Tramonti, Schiara, Le Rosse, or Le Nere. Simply magnificent.

Beaches in Portovenere

Portovenere is the suggestive western end of the Gulf of Poets, characterized by the presence of the Sanctuary of San Pietro, an ancient building of Roman origin located on the tip of the coast, and by the small archipelago in front, formed by the Islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto. From the beaches of Portovenere and Palmaria Island you can admire the most beautiful views, made of a wonderful mix of nature and human heritage.

The admiral beach on Palmaria can be reached with a nice walk on the island

Beaches in Lerici, Ameglia e Montemarcello

The easternmost coastline of the Golfo dei Poeti is characterized by the increasingly frequent presence of sand, which proceeds southwards and becomes characteristic of the coast of Sarzana and Upper Tuscany. In Pozzuolo, Fiascherino, Tellaro, Lerici, you can admire some of the most beautiful bays of the coast, and some of the most beautiful seaside villages in Italy.
