Riomaggiore, the “first” of the Cinque Terre villages, surrounded by the Sciacchetra vineyards
The village of Riomaggiore is the first of the five that can be reached from the capital of La Spezia, and is about ten miles north-west of the city.
It can easily be reached by train, car or sea, with a private boat or with the boat that leaves from the small port of La Spezia (Passeggiata Morin). The train is the easiest and fastest way to reach your destination, while the ferry offers the most scenic route.
Riomaggiore is connected to the town of Manarola by a path called La Via dell’Amore, a very romantic walk overlooking the sea, from which you can admire some of the most incredible views of the area. Unfortunately, this path has been seriously affected by the 2011 flood and, as it has not yet been restored, it is currently not accessible.
