The Places of the Heart are a map of environments, locations, large, small, famous or unknown that represent emotions and tell different stories, all Italian, all great for their simplicity, all significant in their essence. This important mapping of Italy also includes our Palmaria island this year.

The mapping of the Places of the Heart of the Italian Environment Fund allows to indicate unique and special places for many and to ensure that they are not forgotten or left in a state of decay, and are better valued and experienced. With the census, it is possible to vote until the 30th of November the place of the heart and concretely contribute to its rebirth with a budget of € 400,000 financed by the Fund.

L’Isola Palmaria, porta del Golfo

The natural features and the history passed on the Palmaria island are often just known even to us always overlooking the Gulf: not all have circumnavigated the island to look out on the side of its beautiful sea caves, to admire the steep white walls that face the open sea and they act as a majestic door to the charm of Portovenere, as well as from home to rare species of birds. Not everyone knows that the incredible position of the Palmaria was also strategic for the Italian military assets of the past centuries, which have decreed their destiny to this day. On Palmaria, prisons, fortresses and towers have drawn history.

Currently, Palmaria is in 44th place in the FAI ranking, with over 4000 votes. How to vote?

The island is currently at the center of the interest of local institutions and associations for a reinterpretation of its natural spaces after the partial downsizing of land occupation by the military forces. It is an extraordinary paradise that can become more accessible to everyone, but that must be handled with care. The attention of Fai is a guarantee that the island does not lose its natural charm.
To vote, you need to register on the FAI website and enter the Island page
